Of course, a quick search on YouTube reveals a ton of creative arrangements of this timeless piece of music. I have to give credit to even some of the less-than-stellar performances, like the one on a ruler. But for sheer audacity, the award has to go to this kid who played it on a church pipe organ… at a service!
Apparently this “art” is referred to as manualism. I always just called it “hand farts”… but then again, I’ve never gotten it as musical as this guy.
Of course, I never used a wah-wah pedal with it, either!
It’s unlikely that we’ll ever return to the heyday of drugged-out children’s programming that Sid and Marty Krofft brought us in the early ’70s with the likes of Lidsville, but the folks over at Nick Jr. seem to be channeling that same spirit with their show Yo Gabba Gabba. Apparently my 19-month-old daughter is now being indoctrinated into this hallucinogenic world. Right on!
Valve Software, makers of the Half-Life series, will soon release a new set of games set in that universe, called The Orange Box. The most intriguing element of this, for me, is a game called Portal.
